Satsuma Stories, a breathtakingly beautiful expression of Maki-e, is a superb tribute to the rich and varied symbolisms of Japanese heritage, skillfully crafted by one of our most talented Artists. Traditional Japanese Satsuma earthenware developed in the 16th century in Japan and featured scenes of flora and fauna and Japanese life. Each turn of this resplendent writing instrument depicts traditional and auspicious motifs.

This extraordinary pen has been crafted by Fujino San, who is truly among the finest Maki-e Shi (Maki-e artists) in Japan. His work reflects both technical mastery and deep reverence for traditional artistry.

A rare blend of precious metal powders—predominantly Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Copper—is applied to create the myriad details of this fine writing instrument through multiple processes of applying several layers of Urushi, sprinkling of powders, and inlaying fine pieces of Gold and different colors of Mother of Pearl and Raden in the highest levels of Shishiai Maki-e Art techniques ever achieved.

The skill of the Maki-e Shi is to be saluted in the precision and wondrous application of heritage techniques of Maki-e Lacquer Art.
