DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS
EL AMOR NUNCA MUERE
A Celebration of Life, Family, Remembrance & Eternity
There are few traditions in the world that embrace the mystery of life and death with the extraordinary beauty of Día de los Muertos. Ancient in origin and rich in symbolism, this beloved tradition transforms remembrance into celebration—bringing together family, music, flowers, color and memory in honor of those who have gone before us.
The inspiration reaches beyond the extraordinary visual language of Día de los Muertos. It touches something deeply personal: the enduring connection between generations and the belief that death is not the end of our existence.
We are born, we live, we leave this mortal life—and yet the bonds of family endure.
Oscarson’s faith teaches that all of humanity are children of God, that our existence extends beyond mortality, and that through the Resurrection, death will ultimately surrender to life. Within his faith, families are united across generations, honoring their ancestors and performing sacred ordinances on behalf of those who have passed before them.
In this sense, Día de los Muertos provides a remarkably powerful artistic language for expressing a universal human longing: to remember those we love, to preserve their stories, and to believe that love can transcend the boundary between this life and the next.
The Dia de los Muertos collection is a celebration of that idea.
At its crown, an intricately sculpted skull beneath a sombrero emerges among an abundance of flowers—the unmistakable imagery of Día de los Muertos. Along the crown and lower barrel, dancing skeletons rise from the grave, evoking both the joyous spirit of the celebration and the ancient promise of resurrection.
The imagery recalls the extraordinary vision of Ezekiel, in which dry bones are restored, bone to bone, and brought back to life. For Oscarson, this is
more than a metaphor. It is a powerful visual expression of the belief that physical death is temporary and that every soul will ultimately be reunited with a perfected immortal body.
Across the barrel, skulls dance beside a guitar and an exuberant garden of flowers, transforming mortality into music, movement and celebration. The clip continues the story with a flower-adorned skull and cascading petals.
At the heart of the pen, engraved into the gripping section, are four simple words:
EL AMOR NUNCA MUERE
LOVE NEVER DIES
The flowers themselves become a language of remembrance.
Brilliant cempasúchil, or marigolds, with their vivid golden and orange petals and distinctive fragrance, traditionally form pathways leading the departed toward the homes of their families.
Red cockscomb, or terciopelo, evokes mourning, vitality and the blood of Christ.
White chrysanthemums and baby’s breath speak of purity, innocence, peace and remembrance, while carnations and gladioli bring together love, respect, strength, faithfulness and the celebration of life.
Every surface is intended to reveal another layer of meaning.
Crafted in solid .925 Sterling Silver, the pen is transformed through David Oscarson’s signature combination of sculptural relief, precision Guilloché engraving, and richly colored hand-applied Hard Enamel. Translucent enamel allows the intricate guilloché beneath to remain visible, so that light moves through the color and across the engraved silver. Opaque enamels provide contrast and depth, while repeated kiln firing, grinding and polishing bring the surfaces to a jewel-like finish.
Even the traditional seven levels of the ofrenda become part of the collection’s symbolic vocabulary: faith and spiritual protection; remembrance of departed souls; purification; nourishment through pan de muerto; favorite
foods and drink; photographs of loved ones; and the final cross of flowers, seeds, salt or earth.
The four elements—earth, wind, water and fire—complete this symbolic journey through mortality, remembrance and renewal.
For Oscarson, there is also a personal connection to this season of remembrance.
Growing up in Stockholm, he attended an international school whose playground was situated among the graves of a historic cemetery. As autumn descended and candles appeared among the tombstones, a young David became acquainted with the mystery surrounding All Hallows’ Eve and All Saints’ Day. What began as imaginative childhood stories became an enduring appreciation for the traditions through which different cultures remember those who have gone before.
Separated by continents and centuries, the traditions of Mexico and Scandinavia nevertheless share something profoundly human: candles glowing in the darkness, flowers placed among the graves, names remembered, families gathered, and the living pausing to acknowledge those who came before them.
The Day of the Dead pen is therefore not a celebration of death.
It is a celebration of life remembered.
Of family enduring.
Of faith overcoming mortality.
And of the eternal hope that those we love are never truly lost.
EL AMOR NUNCA MUERE.
LOVE NEVER DIES.
