The Italian Renaissance in the fountain Pen! I've often heard this said by people I have spoken to. It was its beauty which initially prompted the comment: the pure lines, balanced forms, the sense of colour are, as is known, the common denominator in all OMAS models, whether designed by Armando Simoni, the founder, by Angelo Malaguti, his son in-law, or by Gianlucam his grandson; not least those which as in this case, have I been directly involved with. The technical aspect and innovation were "discovered" at a later stage.
The happy encounter with the Museo Ideale Leonardo Da Vinci, a unique museum which keeps and updates the largest collection of five centuries of "Leonardisms" (the Leonardo phenomenon from art to mass media) and, in particular, with Prof. Alessandro Vezzosi, one of the most eminent scholars and experts on the life and works of the great genius, director, and co-founder of the museum, could not provide a better occasion for setting an imaginary, indelible seal on this definition.
In fact, Leonardo's sketches contain some designs which, suitably examined and interpreted, turned out to be precursors of some basic elements of current fountain pens and we considered them, with a few essential adjustments, to meet present day requirements, when making the pen dedicated to him. Even the decoration is a tribute to Leonardo. Inspired by Da Vinci knots, it makes the item a work of art, given an almost regal appearance by the tiny sphere on the end, adorned with a cabochon.
One curious feature is that the simple, refined nib, designed in 1971, with wide, aerodynamic and innovative curves, is called Rinascimento (Renaissance).
