Giacomo Puccini (1858–1924) was an Italian composer, renowned for his contributions to the operatic repertoire. Born on December 22, 1858, in Lucca, Italy, Puccini's works are among the most frequently performed in the standard opera repertoire. Some of his most famous operas include:

La Bohème (1896): A romantic opera that depicts the lives of young bohemians in Paris.
Tosca (1900): A dramatic work set in Rome, revolving around the love and jealousy of the singer Floria Tosca.
Madama Butterfly (1904): A tragic opera set in Japan, telling the story of the young geisha Cio-Cio-San and her ill-fated marriage to an American naval officer.
Turandot (1926, posthumously completed by Franco Alfano): This opera is set in China and revolves around the icy Princess Turandot, who requires suitors to solve three riddles to win her hand in marriage.

Puccini's compositions are known for their rich melodies, emotional depth, and skillful orchestration. His ability to create compelling characters and express intense human emotions through music contributed to his lasting impact on the world of opera. Puccini passed away on November 29, 1924, in Brussels, Belgium.
