The LS7 Mitsubachi (Honey Bee) was launched in 2003. It is a three-dimensional, very high-relief composition in pastel shades of cream, brown and gold. It shows honey bees at work producing honey over the honeycomb.
There is a honeybee on the cap, two on the barrel and the Queen honeybee on the gripping section near the nib. The consummately executed design shows incredible detail of the high relief bees down to the minute details of the veins in their wings. The Honey Bee composition, to our knowledge, is novel for fountain pens.
The Maki-E artist is Shogetsu Mitani. He is famous for his work on various Japanese objects including tea containers. Some of his creations have been purchased by the Japanese government to be used for ceremonial occasions.
The LS7 Mitsubachi is the first creation of Shogetsu Mitani on fountain pens, the Maki-E technique of the Mitsubachi is Shishiai-togidashi. It employs high relief Taka Maki-E continuously combined with Togidashi. This technique requires the highest level of skill.
All LS designs carry the Red Seal signature of the creating artist. The Mitsubachi, bears the prestigious Red Seal signature of the artist Shogetsu Mitani. He also paints the individual limited edition number of the pen on the barrel end.
The LS7 Mitsubachi will be produced in just 15 pieces on the Parker Duofold Centennial and 15 pieces on the Classic Legend worldwide (as shown in our last image - Featured in page 389 of the Fountain Pens of Japan Book).
