Namiki's 2016 Maneki-neko features cats for better luck and fortunes, as well as, business prosperity. Wishing for good fortune, a cat holding oval-shaped gold coins with its right paw raised is depicted on the cap of the fountain pen. On the barrel of the fountain pen is Maneki-neko wishing for business prosperity by holding Oh-iri-bukuro (a full house bonus bag) with its left paw raised. Oh-iri-bukuro is filled with money and distributed as a congratulatory prize when Sumo tournament is held or Kabuki play performed before a packed audience.

More notably, the Taka Maki-e technique (high relief designs) which is utilized to imbue the main Manki-neko with an overwhelming sense of presence. The Togidashi Maki-e technique (lacquer layer burnished to reveal the design beneath) is utilized for the mallet of luck and Senryo-bako, as well as, for the pine tree, bamboo and plum tree in the background of the beckoning cat.
The pen comes in a gift box that imitates the Senryo-bako. Inside the gift box are a serial number plate that imitates the small gold coin depicted on the fountain pen.
