The Visconti Urushi Limited Edition fountain pens are made from the sap of the Chinese Lacquer tree. It takes masterful technique and ultimate patience to complete even just one of these creations.
The technique requires multiple layering and drying times. The technique consist of cutting five to ten horizontal lines across the bark of a ten year old Chinese lacquer tree. Then one must extract the sap from the bark which contains urushi oil, the oil in poison ivy which causes the rash. The sap is filtered, heated, and colored before it is applied. It may take months to complete just one pen.
